info
We care about our customers and take special precautions to make sure all hair removal sessions are hygienic (no double dipping). For course hair, such as the underarm and bikini areas, a hard wax is applied with a clean applicator for each dip into the pot. For finer hair a disposable applicator with a one-way valve is used to prevent cross contamination.
Waxing services are not recommended for those clients using (or have used in the last 6 months) Acutane or Retin A products. If you have utilized these or similar products please be aware there is a very real risk of extended or abnormal skin reaction.
We are also unable to wax if you have tanned on the day of your waxing appointment, or if you have a visible sunburn or other non-intact skin issue for your own safety.
Do Men Get Waxed?
Yes, even in Montana! And, yes, we do male brazilians. Many find it easier to wax than shave every day.
Plus, the hair comes in finer and feels softer meaning no bristles to deal with.
Avoid alcohol
Avoid caffeine
Avoid nicotine
Some find waxing more comfortable if they take an OTC analgesic, such as Tylenol, Advil, or aspirin before a treatment
Many find that a antihistamine helps control the skin reaction
You may consider using a topical anesthetic (numbing agent)
Waxing manufacturers recommend taking an antacid (Tums, Rolaids, etc.) before a waxing treatment to help reduce redness
How often do I need to get waxed?
That all depends on you. Some of our clients come in once a year just before vacation while others come in frequently to keep bare. We will make sure you get a great wax no matter when you come in, but suggest you wait at least 3 weeks between appointments for the best wax. So, the question is, how much do you dislike the hair? Come in when it bothers you, relax if it doesn't.
Aftercare is 95% of a good wax. Home care will help prevent reactions including breakouts and ingrown hairs. Perhaps we should come up with a better word than aftercare, because you should start by coming into the salon clean and dry. Then, keep the area clean after a wax. This may even include changing your sheets before you go to bed that night. The area should be cooled down after a wax. We recommend a cool shower, that way you can rinse off any residual tackiness as well. Sweat is the enemy of a good wax. Let the area breathe for best results. Starting 48 hours after a wax exfoliate and moisturize daily. Exfoliate does NOT mean scratch a layer of skin off!! Gently get rid of dead skin cells using a washcloth and/or a paste made out of baking soda. Many waxers find it is better for the skin to cut out all product. For example, washing the face with just a wet washcloth. Lastly, don't hesitate to call us with any questions.
Some people are more prone to ingrown hairs than others. It is individual to each person. Some get more ingrowns when shaving, some get more when waxing. Some get ingrowns only in one area of the body. To minimize ingrown hairs you can apply products such as PFB Vanish. Other worthwhile tips on avoiding or worsening an ingrown hair situation include:
What you wear to the salon to get waxed will depend on the area to be waxed and your personal comfort/modestly level. In all cases, avoid wearing clothes that fit tightly over the area to be waxed. This can cause uncomfortable chafing or rubbing after your wax. For standard bikini waxes we will provide disposable underwear if you choose to wear them. For some of the more extreme waxes it is easier and faster if you are comfortable without underwear.
Unfortunately, the longer the better. Seriously, the longer you let the hair grow out from a shave, the better the wax you are going to get. This is because of the hair growth cycle. Not all of your hair is actively growing at any given point in time, and the hair should be a least 1/3 inch uniform. There is no such thing as "too long' with waxing , but there is a "too short." Try to wait at least 2 weeks from a shave, but 4+ weeks would be ideal.
At any given point of time only about 20% of hair is actively growing. So, when hair is pulled out by the root there is a hair-free period. Then, as the hair starts to come back in, it is less dense than the original growth. If given enough time, the hair will eventually fill in to normal levels. Depending on the area, many people can go a month or more before waxing again. In many areas repeated waxing will actually thin out the hair. However, if you are young and healthy, don't expect miracles.
